Spectral Overlay Confirms Identity

A different mixture of the same components was used to produce the chromatogram shown here with its 4 peaks.

Spectral library searches were made in order to identify the components in conjunction with retention time data.

Peaks 1, 2 and 4 can be identified as alkyl phthalates, most probably dimethyl, dibutyl and di(ethylhexyl) phthalates.

Peak 3 is identified as pyrene. The library reference spectrum of pyrene overlayed on this impurity peak shows an almost perfect fit and with the retention time data for pyrene provide confirmation of identity.
